MY MOM ESCAPED ROMANCE SCAM

Recently this guy wrote my mother few letters, but I had in the very beginning some doubts about his story. Well, it just sounded very cheesy. Widower, a single father, plus a military man, which represents the Danish government in UK as an engineer, but barely speak Danish or writing with simple mistakes in English (me too, but I am not a native speaker as he claimed he was). Plus he wanted to come back to Denmark after his serving will be finished and buy a house anywhere my mother wants which was the last mistake he made. Because prices in Denmark (even if it is a very small country) for houses can be from 300 000dkk up to 5-6 millions, so you have to be sure what you can afford and where.
I asked my boyfriend to make a research on this guy, so he found your site. And we immediately stopped the connection between him and her. Nothing bad happened, nobody was hurt. But I was curious for already quite a while, why absolutely smart and normal women are sending money to unknown men? I mean you DO NOT know a person if you never seen him or her, never spoke face-to-face or just had some activities or dates together. Is not it kind insane that a man asks you (not his friends or the bank or relatives) about a huge amount of money? Even if he spoke with you on a phone it does not bring you close enough to send thousands of dollars. I am not blaming anyone. I am just curious.
